PSG and the Paris City Council have long been at open war over the ownership of the Parc des Princes. The club wants to buy the stadium where it has played its matches for so many years, but not at the price demanded by the institutions. Even if the move to the Stade de France is also considered, the State has set the sale at around 600 million euros, a prohibitive figure when looking at the reforms that need to be made.
With a capacity of 80,000 seats, the Stade de France meets one of the requirements sought by PSG, which wants to accommodate more fans in each of its matches. However, the works to reduce the distance that currently exists between the public and the field of play, caused by the athletics track, will trigger the expenditure of over one billion euros. Unaffordable, even for PSG.
The Stade de France’s location, in Saint-Denis, one of the capital’s many northern suburbs, doesn’t help either. Access is not easy, as proved in the last Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool. For these reasons, and despite that fact al khelaifi have threatened to leave the Parque de los Príncipes, so far there has been no real contact with the State to move to the stadium where France usually plays.
