Kyrgios, who enjoyed his best season ever and reached the Wimbledon final, shared a graph comparing his achievements in 2022 with Barty’s on Instagram with the caption: “LOL. No respect. I don’t give a…”he wrote on social media.
Kyrgios said earlier feeling slighted in his own country despite attracting crowds and media attention every time he plays. He told Australian media last week that it was an “easy” decision to skip Australia’s recent Davis Cup campaign, but he could return to the team if the country “embraces” him a bit more.
Barty told reporters he was honored to win the award. “It’s an incredible way to end what has been an incredible journey,” Barty told reporters. “The journey of my life chasing my dreams and exploring what was possible in the world,” he noted.
