The awards the proclaimed champion of the Soccer World Cup increases in passing editions until reaching the 40 million that Argentina or France will receive by winning the tournament in Qatar this Sunday.
The ‘inflation‘ of the prize in recent decades has been progressive, from the two million euros that Italy received for its victory in the World Cup played in Spain in 1982 to the 40 that are being broadcast this Sunday.
This means that at last 40 years the amount allocated by FIFA to the winner of the World Cup is multiplied by 20. In Spain’82 the champion pocketed 2 million euros; in Mexico’86, 2.6; in Italy’90, 3.3; in the United States ’94, 3.8; in France’98, 5.6; in South Korea / Japan’02, 7.5; in Germany’06, where the first big jump took place, 18.8; in South Africa’10, 28.2; in Brazil’14, 33; in Russia’18, 35.7 and in Qatar’22, 40.
These are the economic rewards which the 32 teams participating in this year’s World Cup will pocket.
1
40 ‘kilo’ for the champion
The biggest prize in the history of the World Cup, it multiplied by 20 the 2 million that Italy received 40 years ago for taking the title of champion in Spain ’82.

2
29 for the runner-up
It will be consolation for the team that remains on the doorstep of what will be its third star. Argentina and France have two World Cups each and one of them has to ‘sacrifice’ the third for this amount.

3
26 million for Croatia
The third podium in the history of the World Cups for this small Balkan republic was a prize of 26 ‘kilo’, which rounded off the great joy of Modrid and company after defeating Morocco in the consolation.

4
Morocco provides 24 million
The African team, the first to reach the semifinals in the history of the tournament, must ‘build up’ for this juicy pinch to end the World Cup race that has elevated all its members to the category of national heroes

5
From 5th to 8th, 16 million per head
The teams that failed to get past the quarterfinals (Netherlands, Brazil, England and Portugal) will receive 16 million euros each for reaching the penultimate round of the competition.

6
Spain, which is between 9th and 16th, takes 13 ‘kilo’
The Spanish Federation, after the disappointing passage of the Red for Qatar, will see its income increase by 13 million euros, the prize agreed for all the teams that passed the group stage but crashed in the round of 16.

7
And the ‘stones’: 8.5 million for others
The 16 teams that failed to get past the group stage had to pay for the entry fee they all received: 8.5 million euros. An uncountable ‘stone’.
