The Augusta Masters, in a statement sent to the media, including Mundo Deportivo, and signed by the president of Augusta National, Fred Rileynotified on Tuesday that it maintains in 2023 the same criteria it has used until now to invite players, without vetoes or restrictions.

Therefore, LIV Golf players who are exempted by certain categories will be able to compete for the Green Jacket next year. In this way, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Bryson DeChambeau, Joaco Niemann, Talor Gooch, Abraham Ancer, Kevin Na, and Louis Oosthuizen They have already secured their place in the Masters. They are LIV Golf players who are excluded for various reasons: Masters champions, FedEX Cup top 30, PGA Tour tournament champions or top 50 in the world ranking at the end of the year.

This is the full statement from Augusta National that reached the MD newsroom on Tuesday:

“Since its inception in 1934, the purpose of the Masters Tournament has been to benefit the game of golf. Every April, the Masters brings together the best golfers in the world to compete for the Green Jacket and a place in history.

It offers fans the chance to experience dramatic moments of competition at the highest level and promotes the sport of golf at home and abroad.

Throughout the years, golf legends have competed and won at Augusta National Golf Club. Champions like Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods have become heroes to golfers of all ages. They have inspired some to follow in their footsteps and many others to play and enjoy the game. They support the sport and thus all who benefit from it. They showed respect for those who came before them and paved the way for future generations. Golf is better because of them.

Unfortunately, recent events have divided men’s professional golf by diminishing the virtues of the game and the significant legacy of its creators. Although we are disappointed with these developments, our goal is to honor the tradition of compiling a player list of notable golfers next April.

Therefore, throughout this week we will be inviting those eligible under our current criteria to compete in the 2023 Masters.

As we’ve said in the past, we review every aspect of the tournament each year, and any changes or changes to the invitation criteria for future tournaments will be announced in April.

We have reached an important point in the history of our sport. At Augusta National, we believe that golf, which has overcome many challenges over the years, will endure again.
