Brighton, dismissed on penalties for a Third

Date:

A lack of goals prevented Brighton and Hove Albion from winning at The Valley, in London, who were eliminated from the English League Cup by Charlton, from the third division, who found a reward for their resistance in the penalty shootout ( 0-0 and 4 -3).

Charlton thwarted Brighton’s success with Italian Roberto de Zerbi, traveling untroubled in the Premier as evidenced by his seventh place in the table. The clash ended without a goal and was resolved with the launch of penalties, where the locals were more successful and achieved a surprising classification. Pascal Gross, Leandro Trossard and Solomon March all missed three of the five shots although Charlton also missed the same.

The outcome was at the expense of failure from eleven meters. Colombian Moisés Caicedo left in the seventh and Brighton lost the game.

The elimination of De Zerbi’s team was the only surprise today in the round of 16 of the League Cup. Manchester United beat Burnley with goals from Dane Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford (2-0) and Nottingham Forest, third from bottom in the Premier League, beat Blackburno Rovers (1-4) at Ewood Park.

Nottingham applauds

Steve Cooper’s side took the lead after fifteen minutes with a penalty converted by Brennan Johnson but Scott Wharton, on the brink of half-time, equalized for the locals. In the second half, goals from Jesse Lingard, Taiwo Awoniyi and another from Johnson, the second himself, led to a win that sent Nottingham Forest into the quarterfinals.

Charlton, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United joined Leicester, Julen Lopetegui’s Wolverhampton, Southampton and Newcastle who qualified on Tuesday. The round of 16 will be completed on Thursday with a clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.
