World Aquatics recently announced some changes to its classification systems for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.. They affect all disciplines except water polo and include significant changes in their specialties. Most notable is the previously announced introduction of men’s artistic swimming team events.
ARTISTIC SWIMMING
This is the discipline with the most dramatic change. It was announced that in team activities, out of eight swimmers, a maximum of two men could be introduced. In addition, each team can call up a total of nine swimmers, with a maximum of one reserve.
SWIMMING
In the preliminary process, the first three classified in the 2023 Fukuoka World Cup and the thirteen best teams of the 2024 Doha World Cup got a relay pass. Today, the first three of that 2023 Fukuoka World Cup and the thirteen best countries will qualify in a series of performances from the Fukuoka 2023 and Doha 2024 World Cups
OPEN WATERS
In the preliminary process, it was indicated that swimmers classified in the pool in the 800 or 1500 free could swim 10 kilometer open water events if their country did not have the full quota. Now, it has been detailed that to compete in this 10-kilometer test following this minimum standard in long-distance tests, it will be mandatory to have previously swum in Paris 2024 or the 800 or 1500 free. That means it’s not worth getting the background classification and then giving up on that test and just preparing for the open water.
JUMPING
The qualification process has been clarified as continental events will be held before the 2023 Fukuoka World Cup, with qualification taking priority. Only continental event champions in an individual key can earn an Olympic place for their country. If there is no continental event, an alternative event is sought to determine the classification. That is, everything points to the fact that the places already assigned will not run on the continental route.
