English football mourns the loss of another member of the 1966 world champion team after the death of George Cohenfootball legend, 83 years old.
Cohen is a ‘one club man’ at Craven Cottagedebuted in the national team in a 2-1 victory over Uruguay in 1962 and settled in the position of starting part of Sir Alf Ramsey in the home tournament four years later.
He was one of the captains in the victory of the English West Germany (4-2) in the final of Wembleyand played his last international match a year later, becoming the first of the 1966 England eleven to leave the team.
With Fulham he played a total 459 matches and went capped 37 times for Englandwhere he was world champion.
Now after his death, only Sir Bobby Charlton Y Sir Geoff Hurst as the surviving members of the starting eleven that triumphed 56 years ago. In total, only five members of the group Ramsey still alive: Charlton, painful, George Eastham, Terry Paine and Ian Callaghan.
The causes of the death of the legendary English player are still unknown.
