Date:

Australia defeated Spain 3-2 in the United Cup, after winning the mixed doubles which fell to a tieand thus both teams ended their participation in this new competition, the local team with a record of one win and one loss and the Spanish team with two losses.

Great Britain, who won both, will advance to the next round as Group D champions and will play against the United States for a spot in the Final Four.

Samantha Stosur and John Peers defeated Jéssica Bouzas and David Vega 6-2, 6-3a game that had to be played after a two-way tie in which individual matches ended.

In the first game of the day at the Sydney headquarters, Jéssica Bouzas defeated Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2 and in the second Albert Ramos lost to Australian Jason Kluber 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3.

On Monday, Nuria Párrizas gave Spain a point and Rafa Nadal lost to Alex de Minaur.

Ramos, player 39 of the ATP, did not lose to Kluber, 107. The first set, more than expected, was complicated by the loss of the Spaniard’s service in the fourth game. He regained it in the seventh but gave it up again in the next, in a blistering finish to Kluber’s set.

In the second, no one gave a chance. A break point, converted by Ramos, gave him the set and the option to continue playing. But in the third, after two immaculate service games, he conceded the next break and this time he couldn’t get it back. After a long exchange, which rightly lasted longer, he had to admit defeat.

Bouzas, on the other hand, comfortably won his match. He opened the gap from the beginning of the match, with three consecutive games and two breaks, and quickly scored the first set.

The Australian player seemed to react at the start of the second setbut the Galician responded with five straight games and finally closed out the match with another 6-2.

Bouzas replaces Paula Badosa, injured shoulder and who will play in this matchand seized the opportunity to clinch her first win on the WTA circuit.

The matches were followed by Rafa Nadal, who lost both his matches in this competition, first against the British Cameron Norrie and then against De Minaur. The Australian Open, which he won in 2022, is the world number two’s next engagement.
