Medvedev continued with a solid pass in Adelaide

The fourth favorite, Russian Veronika Kudermetova, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Czech Marketa Vondrousova also qualified in that round.

Kudermetova eliminated Canadian Bianca Andreescu without complications by 6-4 and 6-0.

Kostyuk, 69 of the WTA, needed more to beat 21, Kazakh Elena Rybakina, 6-7 (5), 6-2 and 6-3.

Vondrousova defeated Estonian Kaia Kanepi, 6-0, 6-4 and will be Sabalenka’s rival in the quarterfinals.

The first seeds, Serbian Novak Djokovic and Tunisian Ons Jabeur, will play this Thursday in the round of 16 against French Quentin Halys and Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
