The pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie decided to forego the indoor season with a hamstring problem, “The smart solution to keep dreaming big for the important events coming up in 2023 and 2024, the World Cup in Budapest and the Olympic Games in Paris.” It was announced this Thursday on social networks.
“I will take the time to listen and fully adjust the body. I have decided, in consultation with my sports and medical environment, not facing indoor weather this winter. My hamstring still needs some time to be 100% functional and my body made me understand that because of the tensions that are always present when the intensity increases,” said the Frenchman.
“It was a difficult decision for me because I love my sport, but the big goal for 2023 is still the World Cup in Budapest (from August 19 to 27) and I want to put myself in the best possible conditions to perform this summer,” he said.
This marks the first time in his career that Lavillenie has completely skipped the indoor season. “For more than fifteen years I have always chained the seasons of winter and summer, and a short break seems like the smart solution to keep dreaming big in view of the important events coming up in 2023 and 2024″, with the Paris Olympic Games at its peak.
“There are a few weeks without pressure before calmly continuing the specific care and training to be operational in the spring for summer preparation,” concluded the Frenchman. Last summer Lavillenie placed fifth at the Eugene World Championships and then seventh at the Munich European Championships.
