The Spanish Rebecca Masarova defeated the Czech Karolina Muchova 7-6(4) and 7-6(2) this Friday in the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 in Auckland (New Zealand).
The Spaniards were promoted to the next round after a match that lasted almost two and a quarter hours. Muchova -151 in the WTA ranking- does not give up easily.
Masarova (130 WTA) scored the first set after a ‘tie-break’ with the Czech. The Spaniard knows how to impose his tennis in the tiebreaker, forcing up to four losses of service from his rival. Muchova sold the set dearly, avoiding three consecutive set points.
In the second period, on three occasions Muchova managed to break the Spaniard’s serve at 3-3 in the light, but it would not happen, again, until the ‘tie-break’ when Masarova stepped on the accelerator to break three times the checa service and close the game with the second ball he arranged for it.
The Catalan will face Belgian Ysalines Bonaventure (95 WTA) in the semifinals, who defeated Canadian Leylah Fernández, the 40th best racket on the circuit, 6-4, 6-2.
