Yesterday we left the camp of ha’il, where we suffered from working in difficult conditions due to heavy rains and the subsequent coldness of its nights. (1ºC). we are going to Riyadh. We remember the capital with joy from previous editions because of its day. But when we got to the bivouac, we couldn’t believe it: it is full of puddles and the threatening clouds are approaching. The rain was with us again throughout the day.
I remembered the decision I made the day before going to Dakar: “I won’t take my boots, I have enough sneakers”. I haven’t used them in years and they are taking up space in my suitcase. Yesterday I needed them. With some running shoes, on the ground, in Ha’il, I managed to drain it well.
But in Riyadh the bivouac is located in an asphalt parking lot. Every time you have to leave the press room, it’s an obstacle. That’s how you go to talk to the pilots, eat or go to the bathroom. You tried to jump from one side to the other so as not to get your feet wet. Countless times I ended up with my feet in puddles the first time I was on a long trip.
I decided to change my socks because I felt so cold. Right after, it’s time to go outside and talk to Joan Barreda. I ran 20 meters and returned to a puddle. Changing back is no longer an option. How many hours did I work like this, feet wet and body cold, wishing the sun would finally come out.
