The Technical Committee of Referees of the Spanish Football Federation announced today some changes to the appointments originally planned for the round of 16 of the Cup. One of them directly affects the duel that will take place tomorrow in San Mamés between Athletic and Espanyol. Referee Jaime Latre will replace Jesús Gil Manzano as VAR referee, replacing Isidro Díaz Mera as the main referee for Thursday’s clash between Villarreal and Real Madrid.
José Luis González González, for his part, will replace Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva in VAR in the cross between Levante and Atlético de Madrid. Cuadra Fernández, who presided over the league match between Real and Athletic on Saturday, remains the VAR referee in Ceuta-Barça and Medié Jiménez, in the same way as happened in the Anoeta derby on Saturday, is repeated by VAR in Sporting – Valencia.
The CTA confirmed these changes after the harsh criticism shown by Cádiz after their draw last night with Elche. VAR, by the way, is making its debut this round in the current cup campaign.
