The City of Manchester leading to Deloitte Football Money League for the second consecutive year as the world’s leading club in the 2021-22 season, with fans returning to stadiums as COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
The city, owned by Abu Dhabi, generated a total revenue of €731 million, followed by Real Madrid (714) and the Liverpool (702). The Manchester Utd generated 689 million euros and the PSG654. City posted a Premier League-record commercial revenue of €373m in 2021-22, a €65m growth on the previous season. Liverpool have moved the most in the Money League this year, moving up four places from seventh to third to achieve their top position.
The Merseyside club have overtaken Manchester United in the standings for the first time, after their run to the 2022 Champions League final brought extra broadcast revenue. Liverpool were also one of five clubs to report more than €100m in revenue per matchday (this was the first time it had done so) as fans returned to the stadiums.
Among LaLiga teams, the FC Barcelona and the Real Madrid they have yet to get revenue back to their pre-pandemic levels, with club revenue down by €203m and €43m respectively from 2018-19.
