Anton Walkes, who played for Charlotte in the US MLS, died in a boating accident near Miami (USA), his team reported on Thursday.
Walkes, 25, who before coming to the United States in 2020 played for the youth teams of Tottenham and Portsmouth in the English league, died on Thursday, according to information provided by Charlotte.

“We are saddened by the loss of Anton Walkes, truly an incredible father, a loving man and an extraordinary human being,” Charlotte FC sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a statement.

“Anton represents what it means to be a part of Charlotte FC and our entire community is mourning this tragedy,” Krneta added.
Although Charlotte did not provide details of the fatal accident, The Miami Herald newspaper revealed that Walkes was injured when two ships collided Wednesday near Miami Marine Stadium.
