Dani Alves, transferred from prison to “ensure safety and coexistence”

Date:

The permanence of the Brazilian footballer in Brains 1 would cause major disruptions in the daily life of the prison intended for preventive prisoners

Football player Dani Alves, accused of raping a young woman in a nightclub in Barcelona, was transferred to Brians 2 prison on Monday. Alves, who has been in protective custody since last Friday, has moved from Brians 1 to Brians 2 , both in the same complex of Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona), to “guarantee security and coexistence”, as indicated by the Secretariat of Penal Measures of Penitentiaries of the Generalitat in a statement.

The modules in Brians 2 are smaller, with about 80 people, so their safety can be better guaranteed. Alves benefits from the decision of the Ministry of Justice, which manages the prisons in Catalonia, since in the new prison where he is imprisoned, the cells are individual with showers. Not so in Brians 1, where the showers are communal. Brians 2 is a more modern module, where other illustrious people like Sandro Rosell or Oriol Pujol have already passed by. However, the Catalan government denies favorable treatment of the prisoner.

The footballer went to jail preventively on Friday after he was arrested by the Mossos and made a statement before the judge who is investigating the charges of a 23-year-old girl. The victim claims she was raped and assaulted by the former Barça and Sevilla player in the bathrooms of a Barcelona nightclub on the night of December 30. The Brazilian, fired from Pumas de México, was sent to prison for flight risk, as he has his residence in Mexico and could also flee to Brazil, where there is no extradition treaty with Spain.

The player gave up to three different versions of the events that happened. He said there was no contact and at the same time that the victim had jumped on him. The cameras in the VIP area of Sutton nightclub showed that Alves and the victim spent about 15 minutes in the toilets. According to the statement of the girl, who waived financial compensation, he assaulted her, raped her and forced her to give him a blowjob. The footballer has claimed to be able to testify again in court.

In short, the prison experts of the Generalitat have determined that it is much easier to guarantee the safety of the footballer in Brians 2, where there are safer facilities for prisoners on remand, such as the Brazilian player, although there are also convicted prisoners.

Sources from the Catalan prison administration have pointed out to this medium that Alves’ stay in Brains 1, where it is more difficult to keep the athlete isolated, would cause major disruptions in the daily life of the establishment.
