the dutch Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal Quick Step), sprint winner of the second stage of the Vuelta a San Juancelebrated the fact that the organization has strengthened security measures for mass arrivals, avoiding signaling problems and confusion like those that marked the end of the first day.
Jakobsen, European champion on the road, admitted to being scared on the first day. After the crash that nearly cost him his life at the 2020 Tour of Poland, the Dutchman has taken a particularly sensitive look at safety issues.

“The arrival yesterday was very dangerous, I got scared and went to the left, where there was none. We talked to the organization and they promised me that today the last 5 km will be safe, better. I am happy with the victory and to check that my legs are strong”, said Jakobsen at the finish line.
The continental champion assured that “the UCI can do more on the security issues and reviewed his experience in the first stage.
“Yesterday there were people crossing the road, it seems that there is no need there. The peloton needs space, we are running fast and it is important to protect the fences and the police to guide us in the right direction,” he said.
Jakobsen also referred to Soudal Quick Step’s sprint preparation.
“Pieter Serry controlled the last few kilometers, and Remco Evenepoel too. They are experienced people, like Morkov, who took me to the end in a wonderful way. It’s an honor that the rainbow jersey works for to me.
Jakobsen cherishes his work as a cyclist and remembers the emotions that came from his accident.
“I love cycling, for me it’s a dream job. I fell two years ago and I hope no one goes through that. The recovery process is tough and when you come back it’s just beautiful. I love this job, sprinting is the best thing I do, and the coming back to win again after a crash is always special,” he concluded.
