Reyna, assisted by Haller, saved a Borussia Dortmund without Bellingham

Date:

Giovnani Reyna, assisted by Sébastien Haller, became the hero this Wednesday of a Borussia Dortmund without its great star Jude Bellingham, who was allowed. Reyna scored the winning goal against Mainz in the 93rd minute, a crucial victory in Dortmund’s fight for Champions League spots (1-2).

Borussia Dortmund were about to pull away, but, although they didn’t play well, they kept going in the final stages and decided Reyna, who scored in the win against Augsburg (4-3) on Saturday. And that, except for the last stretch, even Mainz who in the second half came a little closer to getting the second goal.

Borussia Dortmund won in a stadium, the MEWA Arena, which is traditionally very good here. Since 2014 the Signal Iduna Park team has not lost in this situation, where in his last visits he achieved 7 wins and a draw. Edin Terzic’s men continued the tradition in a match where they failed to attack.

The game had a busy first quarter of an hour. In minute 2 he scored with a header Jae-sung Lee assisted by Edimilson Fernandes. But Borussia Dortmund reacted immediately and leveled thanks to Julian Ryerson taking advantage of the ball from Niklas Süle. Minutes passed without either team deciding the match in their favor.

Anton Stach had a good chance for Mainz, but couldn’t take it. And, beyond, at the exit of a corner, Haller (who came on in the 62nd minute for Youssoufa Moukoko) he extended the game with a header and the ball was used by Reyna, who fired over and gave Borussia Dortmund three points worth gold. Haller played in his second game after being diagnosed (and undergoing surgery and treatment) for testicular cancer in July.
