France’s Romain Perraud scored twice as Southampton beat second-tier Blackpool 2-1 to progress to the round of 16 of the English FA Cup. On the other hand, Fulha were unable to win at home (1-1) against Sunderland, in the Second Division, in a tie that would have required a tiebreaker.
Nathan Jones’ Southampton met their condition as a Premier League favorite and beat Blackpool at St. Mary’s Stadium, who reacted late. Perraud scored at 22′ and 62′ to put qualifying on track. Charlie Patino closed the gap but the visitors could not neutralize the advantage.
Fulham, also from the Premier, were not at Craven Cottage with Sunderland, who took the lead thanks to Jack Clarke after seven minutes. Marco Silva’s Portuguese side equalized after stoppage time through Tom Cairney but never came back. The rivalry will be resolved in the second game, now with Sunderland at home.
