The first leg of the semi-finals coincides with the Club World Cup, a competition played by Real Madrid
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic and Osasuna are the four teams that have qualified for the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. The draw, which will take place this Monday from 1pm, will create a mess as the first leg of the match coincides with the celebration of the Mundialito, a match in which Real Madrid participate.
The first match of the semi-finals of the KO tournament will be played on February 8 or 9, just when Madrid is in Morocco for the Club World Cup (February 1-11), a tournament announced by FIFA in December that it the dates set by LaLiga and the FEF at the start of the season.
If we observe the calendar, the alternatives are scarce. If the hype pushed the whites for a showdown with rojillos or leones, the first option would be the week of February 13 to 17, since Carlo Ancelotti’s men have no obligations during the week.
If there is now a classic in the semi-finals, that alternative is no longer available as the blaugrana have to play against Manchester United in the Europa League. In that case, the FEF would assume that the first leg would be played on the day of the return (March 1) and it would be the second game for which a practically impossible date was sought. All this without forgetting that the merengue team will also have the league game against Elche (February 11-12) postponed, in addition to the match already postponed to February 2 against Valencia at the Bernabéu for the Spanish Super Cup.
