English nationalized Irishman Chris Hughton has been appointed coach of Ghana to replace Otto Addo, who left the position after ending the African team’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
Hughton has been Addo’s assistant for the past twelve months and his appointment to take charge of the ‘Blacks Stars’ came after “extensive discussions between both parties” to continue the project started by the previous coach.
The Ghanaian Federation also announced that George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, who were also part of the technical team at the Qatar World Cup, will continue as assistant coaches. Ghana finished fourth in group H after losing to Portugal (3-2) and Uruguay (2-0) and beating South Korea (3-2).
At the end of the last match, on December 2, at the Al Janoub stadium in Al Wakrah, Otto Addo announced his farewell as coach, a decision that, however, he took before playing the World Cup.
