The final between Liverpool and Real Madrid (which the white team won 1-0) was delayed twice before it started at the Stade de France, with fans unable to enter the field and with police throwing gas at them tear gas, among other incidents.

UEFA initially blamed Liverpool supporters for trying to get in with fake tickets before them an independent commissionwho investigated the matter on behalf of UEFA itself, organizers were found to be responsible for the incidents. The report published on Monday concluded that the “primary responsibility” for what happened rests with UEFA and also criticized the actions of the French Football Federation and local police authorities.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official media on Wednesday: “I think it’s super important that it’s finally official, let me put it like this.. I’m not sure, but I don’t think there is a case with more evidence. Families, friends, everyone is there and everyone knows how our fans act, but it feels good now that it’s official and everyone knows. A lot of things were said after the game.”

Klopp also pointed to UEFA: “Big mistakes were made, had to change the venue a few months before (from Saint Petersburg to Paris due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine). I understand and that’s hard. But putting the final in a stadium that is not regularly used is a mistake. I think we were very lucky nothing else happened. There’s a lot to improve on and hopefully everyone has learned from that.”

The Liverpool manager also sent a message to Liverpool fans for his conduct; “Thank you. Staying calm in a situation where no one can do it, with gas in your eyes, suffering pressure from the front, from the sides, from the back, trapped by thousands of people and not pushing like crazy, it is something very, very difficult to do. And most of all they blame you because it’s terrible. A lot of work can and must be done to make these kinds of events fun.”
