Jon Rahm and Tiger Woods, head to head at The Genesis

the americans Max Homa and Keith Mitchell were at their best Thursday in the opening Genesis Invitational at Pacific Palisades (California), with seven under par and a one-shot advantage over Jon Rahm.

Tiger Woodswho played in his first tournament in 2023, he started with a very positive two under par.

Homa delivered a 64-shot card, with eight birdies to one bogey, as did Mitchell, who completed his round with two birdies on holes 17 and 18.

Great start for Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas, with four under par, and for Argentine Emiliano Grillo, with three under par.

Woods closes his round with three birdies in a rowsomething he hasn’t accomplished since the 2020 Augusta Masters, to close the first round with three under par.

The winner of the fifteen ‘big’ will face the first tournament since the British Open in Julyafter last year he played only three tournaments: the Augusta Masters, the PGA Championship and the aforementioned British Open.

Woods continues to live with ankle pain as a result of a serious road accident experienced in 2021.

Arriving at Pacific Palisades, Woods assured that he sees himself as capable of winning this tournament: “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think I was going to win“.

For his part, Rahm signed a card of 65 strokes, six under par. The one from Barrika opened his participation with two consecutive birdies on holes 10 and 11, both par 4 and 5, respectively. He went short on 15 with the first of his two bogeys of the day, on a par 5.

If he finishes his first half with a -3, he finishes the second, starting from 1, with another -3. Regular. Eight birdies and two bogeys, setting up a title fight for another week.

He’s on a roll, having made five consecutive top-10s, leading into the 2023 FedEx Cup.
