“I probably played my best tennis, I felt very comfortable in this final. I knew it was going to be really difficult, so I started very focused. This is the level at which the finals have to be played”, he congratulated himself Carlos Alcaraz after defeating the British Cameron Norrie by 6-3 and 7-5.
His seventh title, first after the US Open. Asked about it on the microphones of the ATP Tennis TV channel, the 19-year-old from Murcia was surprised to admit the unexpected guilt.
“It was special. During those four months I struggled and I didn’t do the right things off the court, and I felt a little guilty after the injury. Fighting this was not easy. Coming here, my first tournament after four months, and winning the first tournament since the US Open is very special for me, yes”, he still declared on the court, even after receiving the trophy.
Alcaraz had to withdraw in November due to an abdominal injury, in January a muscle injury in his right leg kept him out of the Australian Open.
Demanding on himself, he reflected and there were things he did not like about himself. Young but mature at the same time, and 19 years old with that great perfectionism, without fooling himself.
