Villarreal, who reached the round of 16 directly by finishing first in the group stage, will meet their rivals today after completing eight playoff qualifiers yesterday. The Conference League draw will take place at 1:00 pm (#Vamos/Movistar Liga Campeones).
Villarreal come out of the seeding pot with the winners of the other seven groups, so they will avoid West Ham (England), AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands), Djurgarden (Sweden), Basaksehir and Sivasspor (Turkey), Nice (France) and Slovan Brastislava (Slovakia).
Villarreal, who will play the second leg at home, know in advance that of the 16 survivors, only one of the eight teams that made it through to the playoffs yesterday and building on the rest of the hype will touch them.
Lazio are undoubtedly opponents to avoid, as are Fiorentina, although in Serie A they sit in a disappointing 14th place. The remaining six teams are a priori more affordable: Anderlecht and Ghent (Belgium), Basel (Switzerland), Lech Poznan (Poland), José Luis Oltra’s AEL Larnaca (Cyprus) and Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova).
