Napoli take another step towards their third ‘scudetto’

Date:

Napoli, leaders of Serie A, took another step this Saturday towards the coveted ‘scudetto’, which would be the third in its history, after 1986-87 and 1989-90, in the Diego Armando Maradona era. Luciano Spalletti’s team won 2-0 at home to Empoli and they currently have 18 points more than Inter (2nd) and 21 more than Roma (3rd) and Milan (4th). Inter visit Bologna this Sunday, while Milan also await Atalanta on Sunday and Cremonese await Roma on Tuesday.

Spalletti made a few turns in this match against the team led by Paolo Zanetti, but Empoli could never match a launched Naples towards the title after a long wait. No less than 33 years.

Napoli showed their prowess at the Carlo Castellani stadium where he has dominated this Serie A and once again left a clean sheet despite playing with a man less from minute 68, when Mario Rui saw the red card for kicking Francesco Caputo from ground and then the referee will review the game.

Napoli, fresh from beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, went ahead against Empoli in the 17th minute thanks to an own goal by Ardian Ismajli.

At 28′ Victor Osimhen scored the second goal by taking advantage of a rebound from Empoli goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario after a shot by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Osimhen, currently the top scorer in Serie A, is 19 (and 2 in Champions). Vicario himself prevented the Nigerian attacker from achieving the same. Min-jae Kim smashes the ball over the crossbar in the 35′.
