ANOTHER WORLD RECORD FOR POLE VAN

Duplantis, closer to heaven every day

It is hard to believe that there is an athlete who every day, with his pole, reaches higher. When a few decades ago, we saw Sergei Bubka, a sports legend, climb higher, even surpassing the mythical bar of six meters, it seemed impossible that anyone would come closer to the sky. And there is, yes there is… Swede Armand Duplantis set a new world record in the pole vault until it left 6.22 meters. The Olympic champion, as logical and -of course- more profitable, his personal challenge increases centimeter by centimeter and, at 23 years old, it is difficult to put a ceiling on his career, never better said. To date, Duplantis has broken the world record six times since leaving 6.16 to inherit the throne of number 1. With this sixth universal record, he has left behind another pole vault legend. , the Frenchman Thierry Vigneron, who in the 80s achieved five world records. Bubka is harder to catch in that sense, having managed to relegate his own world records up to 16 times. Of course, since he’s still young, it’s better not to read too much into the ability of this Swedish super athlete who is always flying a little higher than in the past. The question is knowing when he will set the record at 6.23.

FEATHER EUROPEAN CHAMPION

Sheila Martínez, for boxing on the rise

Boxing is reborn and it does so through a boxer, Sheila Martínez, the first Spanish European featherweight champion. The Valencian was crowned in Rome against an Italian, the former champion Anna Lisa Brozzi, so his merit was doubled when he played a ‘fight at home’. Achievements like this help a sport that a few decades ago had a great popular pull and that, later, maybe because of fashion or because it is interesting to give it a bad reputation which it did not touch, diluted its interest. That is exactly what the Spanish Boxing Federation wants to fight, promoting a plan to promote professional events that will return this sport to where it belongs.

THE WORLD BOXING COUNCIL ADVISES

Eating eggs is a positive test

Luis Enrique put his role as a ‘streammer’ into telling the number of eggs he ate for breakfast. It is clear that how this food is seen in respect of the times varies a lot and better understanding. The most recent evidence was brought by the boxer Connor Benn, who tested positive for eating a lot of eggs, an argument verified by the World Council, which freed him from all guilt.

BENFICA, INVESTIGATED

The buzz about the competition

Suspicion of the sport’s cleanliness has long been in the news. Now it’s Benfica’s turn, as it emerged the Portuguese prosecutor’s office is investigating alleged corruption in a match that in 2018 ensured their qualification for the Champions League. If sport is sick, it is society that is sick

SAD AT FOOTBALL

Amancio, goodbye to another legend

It seems inevitable to leak. Some of us who, because of our age, grew up watching great players, attended the news of his death with sadness. These days, we learned about the death of Amancio Amaro, an experienced winger for Real Madrid and the national team half a century ago and the honorary president of the white club. Rest in peace.
