Antoine Griezmannforward of Atletico Madridsince Monday has his own wax figure in the Grévin Museum, one of the most touristic places in Paris.
It’s about a Griezmann wearing a French team kit, smiling while doing his typical thumb and little finger gesture with both hands extended to show that everything is fine or after scoring a goal.
“I’m very happy. It’s a bit strange to see me like this, so well done”Griezmann joked in Spanish media statements with his figure. “It is a pride to be here”, because it is “a historical museum in France”, he highlighted.
The footballer attended the performance with his parents, his wife and his three children, the latter of whom came with him from Spain. “I’m very happy to be here and that’s why we all made the trip,” he explained.
The Atlético de Madrid player thus joins around 250 wax figures in the museum, which already contains other legendary football players such as Pelé, Zinedine Zidane, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Kylian Mbappé.
Coincidentally, the first football player to have a figure in the museum was another player who was a member of Atlético de Madrid, the Franco-Moroccan. Larbi Ben Barek (in 1947), who became champions of the League in 1950 and 1951 with the rojiblanco team.
The museum was founded in 1882, at the height of the public’s fever to recognize famous people through wax figures that were then impossible to see in person. Despite the advent of television, internet and social media, Grévin continues to be a stopover for many tourists and receives about 700,000 visitors to its headquarters every yearclassified as a historical monument.
