Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the World Athletics Council decided to impose sanctions on Russian and Belarusian member federations, following World Athletics.

A year later, the European Athletics Association continues to support the decision made at the time that “all athletes, support personnel and other officials from Russia and Belarus are excluded from participating in any European events Athletics Association for the foreseeable future with immediate effect.”

“While the war in Ukraine has lasted more than a year, the Council of the European Athletics Association remains unchanged in the continued ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes, support staff and other officials from participating not only in competitions, but in all events and activities,” said the president of the European Athletics Association, Dobromir Karamarinov.

“The war is devastating for Ukraine and as a sports organization, the European Athletics Association says that this includes the sports infrastructure in Ukraine and its athletes. We will continue to support the Ukrainian Athletics Federation so that Ukrainian athletes can continue to reach its potential despite the tragic situation in Ukraine,” he said. EFE
