Eden Hazard acknowledged a few weeks ago in a television interview that he wants to fulfill his contract with Real Madrid. Contract that ends on June 30, 2024. It seems clear that the white club’s intention is to try to give it this summer, one before it expires, and where it will seek to repay the 115 million euros they paid Chelsea in 2019.
But it appears that Hazard, if he continues without minutes for the rest of the season, can leave this summer wherever he wants and as a free player. In other words, the destination club does not have to pay any amount to Real Madrid in the coming summer. Operation keyed to FIFA regulations.
This is permitted by Article 15 of the Regulations on the Law and Transfer of Players and relates to the loss or departure of a player for reasonable sporting reasons. So far Hazard has played in 7 of the 41 games played by the white team. This represents 17% of the total number of matches. In other words, only 7% is above the limit set by FIFA. There are 12 league games and certainly the Champions League quarterfinal tie against Chelsea and the Cup semifinal round against Barcelona. At least 15 games which could be 19 if the white club reaches two finals in Europe and the KO tournament.
In some minutes the percentage is even lower and considering the 296 minutes he played between Liga, Cup and Champions League. The minutes are split between 98 minutes in the League, 131 in the Champions League and 67 in the Cup.
If we distribute it among the competitions, only 12% of the total 2340 minutes of the 26 days played so far have participated in the league.
It is in the Champions League where the Belgian is the most prominent with 18% of the total 720 minutes played by Real Madrid in the 8 games played so far.
