The Italian Massimo Stano, current 20 km Olympic champion, will march on Madrid’s Gran Via on May 16 for the Gran Premio Madrid Marcha LaLigascoring, with a gold category, for the world circuit of this athletic discipline.
Stano, according to organizers, tops the list of athletes who will compete in the 500-meter circuit located between Plaza de Callao and the Gran Vía metro station.
In the test, on 10 kilometers of the route, some of the best walkers in the worldincluding the Spanish army with European champions María Pérez and Álvaro Martín at the head, accompanied by European runner-up Diego García Carrera -technical advisor of the test- or Marc Tur, fourth in the 50 km Olympic final.
“One of the dreams that remains to come true in my athletic career is to participate in a great home competition.“, commented Diego Garcia, from Madrid.
The organizers will pay tribute to Jesús Ángel García Bragado, living legend of the walk the world, world champion in 1993 and the world athlete with the most Olympic appearances (eight). Bragado, in his hometown, will participate in the celebration of the Spanish parade, which will continue twelve days later, on May 28, with the Grand Prix of the Cantons of La Coruña.
The men’s and women’s senior events will meet at 1:00 pmwhen the tests on the minors have been performed.
