Date:

The medals of the London 2012 Games continue to be awarded, eleven years later, after the resolution of the doping cases seen in that edition: the IOC appointed on Thursday the new tenants of the podium in the 20 km walk and in 400 m hurdles.

Due to the doping and suspension of the Russians Elena Lashmanova and Olga Kaniskina and the Ukrainian Olena Shumkina, who occupied the first three places in London, the podium of the 20 km walk now consists of the Chinese Shenjie Qieyang, gold, Hong Liu, silver, and Xiuzhi Lu, bronze.

The classification up to eighth place was adjusted accordingly and the Spanish María Vasco, who was tenth in the test, finally finished seventh.

In the 400 m hurdles, the gold-winning athlete, the Russian Natalya Antyukh, was also later disqualified, so for history the victory will remain in the hands of the American Lashinda Demus, the silver to the Czech Zuzana Hejnova and the bronze to the of Jamaican Kaliese Spencer.

The IOC only returns the medals when all proceedings and appeals filed by the athletes involved have been closed.

If the new medalists’ anti-doping analysis samples are retained, they will be re-analyzed for doping products. Without samples, the athlete is given the benefit of the doubt.

New awardees are also given the option to choose between six possible scenarios for receiving the medal: at the next Olympic Games, at the Youth Games, at a ceremony at the IOC or Olympic Museum, at an event at their national committee, at an event. at your international federation or at a private ceremony.
