The Superbike World Championship bid farewell this Friday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a task made especially for current champion and championship leader Álvaro Bautista, who once again leads the time table and is close to breaking the absolute record for on the WorldSBK track.
Bautista set a 1:40.459 in the morning, a record 51 thousandths slower than Tom Sykes in 2021 during the Tissot Superpole. The defending champion was a little less active than the first day, and that is that he also suffered a fall without consequences at turn 11.
The second best time was again for the Valencian Honda Team’s Iker Lecuona, just 62 thousandths of a second behind the current event leader, who also claimed the third best time of the day. The Team HRC WorldSBK rider missed the afternoon due to a fall in the last corner of the Circuit and a suspected broken leg.
Throughout the test, Lecuona was the only one who broke the Ducatis’ rhythm. In addition to Bautista’s first and third fastest times, Michael Ruben Rinaldi followed the Spaniard on the time sheets for most of the day, with a fourth time (1:40.583). Later in the afternoon, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) surpassed that time.
Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was impressive this morning, despite an injury to his right index finger, recording 1’41.432s on the Yamaha YZF R1. Xavi Vierge (Team HRC), followed by a time of 1’41″646.
