The defender of Algeria Jaouen Hadjam is not included in the call for Nantes before their defeat at Stade de Reims in Ligue 1 on Sunday after insisting not to break his Ramadan fast, his manager said, anoine kombouare. Hadjam joined Nantes in January from Paris FC and has featured in nine league games so far.
“Jaouen? There is no controversy. I support those who fast… But on game days you shouldn’t fast,” Kombouare said in a press conference after his 3-0 home defeat. “It’s not a punishment. I set the rules. It’s your choice and I respect it,” he added.
According to local reports, the 20-year-old only agreed to have breakfast for the away games. The holy period of Ramadan ends on April 20. Nantes is 14th in the standings with 30 points, four above the relegation zone. France-born Hadjam decided last month to represent Algeria and played in their 1-0 win over Niger.
