Dorian Godon achieved a brilliant victory with the Brabanzona Arrow

Date:

The French Dorian Godon (Ag2r-Citröen) prevailed in the 63rd edition of the Brabanzona Arrow contested between Leuven and Overijse, with a distance of 205.1 km, after a one-on-one battle with the Irishman Ben Healy (EF Education), with whom he escaped the last part of the exam.

Godon (Vitry sur Seine, 26 years old) won a well-deserved victory, the seventh of his professional careeraward for gallant efforts in the escape and for faith after failing to have co-operation from the Irish when it came to maintaining the escape at the decisive stage.

Godon and Healy were the strongest of the breakaway of the 7 men who starred in the Flemish test in the last 55 km. They both took the lead on the cobbled kilometer of the Moskesstraat, with 13 percent inclines and the duo went for the win.

The Frenchman called for relays to make sure they both made it to the finish line, but the Irishman went crazy. And it was the Frenchman who started the fury sprinting from the distance and raised his arms for the first time this season, with a time of 4:31:42, at an average of 45.3 km/h.

After Healy passed, the peloton appeared 17 seconds behind with another Frenchman, and from Ag2r Citrôen, Benoit Cosnephroyso the gala squad reached two places on the podium. cavagnawith flat tires, was fourth.

An early break fueled the early part of the race with Means (Bingoal-WB), pestle sander (Flanders-Baloise), Townsend (Bolton) and Tord Gudmestad (One-X), four unknowns against a platoon whose command gradually changed as successive attacks took place.

In one of those offensives led by Remi Cavagna (Soudal) escape was canceled with 54 minutes left, but not completely, as the Frenchman caught four, only the Norwegian held on gusmestad and another group of 6 was formed in the vanguard.

Now the illusion is shared with those more mentioned healy (EF Education), Andreas Kron (Lotto-Dstny), Godon (AG2R-Citröen) and Luke Erikson (Tudor), champion of Sweden. The strength of the Frenchman is decisive for the survival of the new escape, until the opening of the 1-minute rental.

Under the rain, the resistance in the peloton weakened. Cavagna, with a generous effort, fell 16 from Overijse, but Godon and Healy decided to fight the tenacity of a pack drawn by Arnaud de Lie’s Lotto Dstny, an opponent in the event of a sprint.

Godon and the Irish time trial champion and the Industry and Crafts GP, burned their ships in absentia and the play was perfect. They continued, sharing efforts until Godon realized he needed to save for the final sprint.

An important achievement for Godon, who has 2 editions of Paris Camembert to his credit. He replaced the American Magnus Sheffield on the list of Flecha Brabanzona winners.
