Aranburu and Van Vleuten, Movistar bet on the Amstel Gold Race

Alex Aranburu and the Portuguese Ruben Guerreiro will be Movistar references for the 57th edition of the Amstel Gold Race this Sunday between Maastricht and Berg en Terblijt, a 253.6 km route, while the women’s team will have its great leader, the Dutch Annemiek Van Vleuten.

The Spanish formation will feature Alex Aranburu, Ruben Guerreiro, Gonzalo Serrano, Jorge Arcas, José Joaquín Rojas, Gorka Izagirre and Johan Jacobs.

The Amstel Gold Race offers almost no respite at its 33 altitude in the Limburg region which is exceeded on its usual route. Unlike the women’s event, the Cauberg is not the final climb. In fact, it happens twice in 253 km: once eighty from the end, after at least twenty previous climbs, and another in the last loop, 19 from the end and with two more passes -Geulhemmerberg and Bemelerberg- before the finish line. in Berg en Terblijt.

VAN VLEUTEN, IN FRONT OF THE WOMEN’S TEAM

The women’s team will present the heavy artillery with its great leader, Annemiek Van Vleuten, at the helm.but joined by a strong formation finished by German champion Liane Lippert, third in Brabanzona Arrow, Arlenis Sierra, Floortje Mackaij, Paula Patiño and Jelena Eric.

The route between Maastricht and Valkenburg consists of 155.8 km and will add an extra lap this year, there will be 4, in a circuit that will have Valkenburg as its key, with climbs to Geulhemmerberg, Bemelerberg and, more in all, the Cauberg, 2 km from the goal of the Berg in Terblijt.
