Eight games separate Arsenal from their first Premier League title since 2004 and now, on the eve of Sunday’s London derby against West Ham, Mikel Arteta asked his players plus his players “finish the task”.
“We are where we are. We are happy where we are. We have to finish the job. To do that, we need a little more from everyone.” assured Arteta. Arsenal saw their lead over Manchester City cut to six points, with a game in hand, then last Sunday the ‘gunners’ saw their seven-game winning streak snapped when they were held by Liverpool at Anfield (2-2).
Besides, City can put maximum pressure on Arsenal and come within three points if they beat Leicester at the Etihad this Saturday, classified penultimate and mired in a bitter fight for permanence.
West Ham, rivals of the ‘gunners’, occupy 14th place and are also fighting to save the category as just three points separate them from the relegation places, although two wins in the last three days have given them a boost.
“It will be a very difficult game. We know we have been in this situation several times and we expect complicated games,” admitted Arteta.
Arteta will face Moyes, his coach at Everton
West Ham is managed by david moyeswho included Arteta in his squad when he played for Everton from 2005 to 2011. “I know him and I know how he prepares matches. More than respect, I have admiration for him. I loved playing with him. I would have gone through a brick wall for him when I coached him. Anyone will do it in that team (Everton)”, assured the Basque coach.
Nketiah returned
The central Willian Saliba continue his recovery, while Arteta recovers the striker Eddie Nketiah after a month and a half out with an ankle injury.
