Bou’s chest prevailed at the opening of the outdoor World Cup

Date:

Jaime Busto (GasGas) He defeated the champion this Saturday, Toni Bou (Montessa)at the opening of Outdoor Trial World Cup in Arteixo (A Coruña)where Spanish is also Berta Abellán (Scorpa) dominated by women.

Galician Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) was on the men’s podium and two other Spanish riders completed the top five: Adam Raga (TRRS) and Aniol Gelabert (Beta).

Arteixo made his debut in the world championship and the circuit choked the champion of the last 16 editions in the first round.

The veteran Catalan rider gave way to Busto from Biscay, which has already inflicted his only defeat on him in the four races of the X-Trial World Championship held in 2023.

Bou was penalized for the latter sections of the first lap, where he accumulated nine penalty points.

The man from Montesa, who has won all the world championships since 2007, tarnished his journey at one point in the ninth section of the first lap, which he reached with a clean record, like Busto, and it is complicated in the tenth, where it is more difficult than shown in the results view.

In that place he was punished by a failure, like Marcelli, Raga or Gelabert, while the winner gave only one point, and Bou again gave another three in the eleventh section.

The champion could not regain that distance in the second, where Busto’s route improved, but only by one point (5-4).

In that second half, the best was Adam Raga, which allowed him to finish fourth, fourteen points behind the winner and two from the podium, closed by Gabriel Marcelli.

Busto is the first leader of the World Cup with 20 points, 3 more than Toni Bou and 5 compared to Marcelli.

Busto admitted that “I didn’t expect at all” to start the outdoor trial World Cup with a victory in the test held this Saturday in Arteijo.

“I’m super happy. I didn’t expect to be so far ahead at all. I felt very comfortable with the bike,” he explained in remarks to the International Motorcycling Federation at the end of the race.

The Biscayan rider, who is 25 years old, said he had an “incredible feeling” on the bike from the first section.

“We had worked quite well throughout the preseason, but I didn’t expect this. I felt incredible and let’s see if we can repeat tomorrow,” he said.

The champion of the last 16 editions of the World Cup, Toni Bou (Montesa), was “happy” to reach the podium in second place after his problems at the end of the first round.

“The race was very easy, but I had a small mistake in section ten with a big crash, another small mistake in section eleven and it was impossible to get those points back. I think second position is not too bad for the championship .” Assurance.

Galician Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) considered third place in the first round of the World Cup “a good way to start the season”.

“The route was quite easy but the race was complicated because we couldn’t make any mistakes,” Bou’s teammate said.

Among the women, Spaniard Berta Abellán (Scorpa) took the first test of the season with just four penalty points, five less than Italian Andrea Sofía Rabino (Beta).

Reigning champion Emma Bristow (Sherco), seeking her ninth title, was unable to finish third.

The second day will be held this Sunday, also in Arteijo, and the World Cup will continue in Gouveia (Portugal) next week.

Motegi (Japan), Baldasserrona (San Marino), San Julià de Lòria (Andorra), Sestriere (Italy) and Vertolaye (France) are the next stages.
