The environmental impact of a trail race: The Salomon Ultra Pirineu

From the first year, the organization of Salomon Ultra Pyrenees and the Cadi Moixero Natural Park They worked in coordination to ensure the race had no impact on the park. Like all human activity, it generates a carbon and waste footprint that must be improved. And in this sense, the Salomon Ultra Pyrenees was able to reduce the amount of waste generated by 74% compared to the previous edition. Of the 3,641 registered, the 2021 edition generated a total of 1,300 kg of waste (0.5 kg per runner), of which 19% was organic, 23% packaging, 19% paper and cardboard and 39% waste. . Few figures exceed the expectations of the organization that set its own goal of generating 50% less waste than the 2019 edition.

To reduce the number of waste, the organization has taken measures as follows:

Elimination of paper advertising in the stock market by brokers

Reducing the purchase of products for supplies with overpackaging

Recycling of all waste generated in the race

Countdown to the 2022 edition

The countdown to Salomon Ultra Pyrenees 2022. Registrations have already opened for this 2022 edition, which will be held from September 30 to October 2 and will have 4 modalities.
