“I am 60 years old, I want to retire from LaLiga and help European football from LaLiga, but I have an obligation to say that this association represents the values ​​and what European football will be in the future,” said Tebas.

LaLiga’s president accused the Association of European Clubs, which groups clubs that normally play in continental competitions, of “destroying football” and praised the project of the recently created Union of European Clubs, which seeks to represent others more clubs.

In the case of the ECA, I think it is slowly being destroyed, and if there is no reaction from the clubs that do not play in Europe, football will become completely unorganized in our local leagues,” Tebas asserted.

The Union of European Clubs (UEC) is an association of professional teams supported by LaLiga which seeks to counter the influence of the existing European Club Association (ECA), led by the president of Paris-Saint Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

In Tebas’ opinion, the ECA “does not represent the clubs of Europe, but the elite clubs” and accused that entity, which has 245 member clubs, including PSG itself, Bayern Munich or Manchester City, of having laws made to measure “so that a series of clubs may dominate” the body.

Tebas affirmed that only 5% of professional clubs in Europe regularly play in European competitions, such as the Champions League or the Europa League, and for this reason he defined the new UEC, which aims to bring together the rest teams, as a project open to “most European clubs”that is, they do not play continental tournaments.
