The young Spaniard from 19 years old, Javier Sagrerahas started a new phase in his sports career, after two years of intense work in Englandwhere he trained as a motorsport driver.
At this time, Sagrera forged himself as a Formula 3 professional in the United Kingdomshowing his talent and ability in the world of motorsports with several podium finishes. Now, with the experience gained on British soil, the Catalan is ready to return to Europe and face a new challenge.
For this, joined Álex Palou, Indy Car champion, to participate in the new European event, Eurocup3, with the recently created Palou Motorsport team.
New challenge in Eurocup3
Eurocup3 has become one of the most important competitions in the European scene and in the team Palou Motorsport has fully prepared to prove its worth in this new season.
“I am very happy to have a driver like Javier, a home driver in a home team. It’s something I’m very excited about because I’ve known him for a few years from karting and now we work hand in hand off the track and here. This is a very important challenge for me too and I want to give him everything he needs to give his best on the track and fight for the championship. Nothing would make me happier than a home driver to win. ”, assured Palou.
For his part, Javier made sure of that “Being part of Álex’s team is something I am very proud of and grateful for the opportunity and for believing in me. Working with Álex and being able to learn from him throughout the year will be an advantage that I want to make the most of”.
The trajectory of Javier Sagrera
Sagrera started his career in the world of motorsports in 2015, and quickly achieved victories in the Spanish championship and Rotax Series.
The following year he jumped to the junior category, where as a ‘rookie’ he achieved runner-up in Spain to compete internationally in the European and world championships. Later, in Senior and KZ, he continued in the same vein, also achieving success at the international level. In 2019, he decided to jump to single-seaters by participating in the last meeting of Formula 4, without getting one of them, and finished in the points with eighth place.
2020 has been the most difficult year of his career so far, his first full year of single-seaters and where the benefits and mistakes outside the driver did not allow him to give everything. However, he did not give up and decided to start a new adventure in England where he spent a total of two years enjoying a fantastic formation in British Formula 3, where he achieved podiums and fastest laps. This year he returned to Europe with the desire to continue showcasing his talent.
It was the fastest of the official tests in its debut
The young driver made his Palou Motorsport ‘debut’ in the official pre-season test held last week at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, and managed to become the fastest driver on the table. Both he and the team have done a great job and they hope to continue in this vein to lead the rest of the season.
“Working with the team during the test days was very positive. It was a very professional team, with whom I felt very comfortable and we did a great job. On the first day we finished in second position, but we immediately knew what needed to be improved to finish the test in first position”, said Sagrera.
“This new Eurocup3 car is more fun to drive, it’s faster because it has Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics, with fast cornering.. Happy with the two days of testing and happy with the championship because there are very competitive drivers and very good teams. We will not get lost at all”, continued the pilot.
“What I like most is to be surrounded by a group of people who have a lot of desire and motivation, starting with Álex’s father, and above all the passion for what they do. I’m lucky and I’m really looking forward to the start of the championship”, Javier ditch.
In addition, the pilot also discussed his opinion about the new Eurocup3 championship, which was born to give everyone who wants to stand in Europe the opportunity to jump to the World Cup. “I think the Eurocup3 championship is a very good opportunity, especially for me because after two years in England doing a good training, I had the opportunity to return to Europe and continue with the goal of reaching Formula 1 . I think It will be a good championship with good drivers and good teams. I like that there are four races in Spain and we also go to circuits where F1 is involved and where I hope to race one day . Overall, this championship has a lot of good things and I really want to start and see how things are.”
First race, May 6-7
The first race will start on the weekend of May 6 and 7 at the SpaFrancorchamps track, and will have a total of 8 rounds, going through Motorland, Monza, Zandvoort, Jerez, Estoril, Valencia and Barcelona.
