El Sardinero experienced a night of joy and sadness this Friday, since the stadium celebrated Racing’s victory over UD Ibiza (1-0) as if it were a title, as it included the Cantabrian team stroking the goal its safety, but for visitors it proved its decline.
The Cantabrians seemed to arrive on the pitch a bit meditative, knowing that they had to mature the game, although after five minutes they had a clear chance through Germán, whose header, after a corner kick, was gradually expand.

Minutes later, Dani Fernández also tested the UD Ibiza goalkeeper, who responded well to clear a powerful shot from the Verdiblanco side for a corner.
The race controlled the game, although it was true that it did not create much danger, until half an hour into the match, in a strategic play, Íñigo Vicente put the ball to Roko Baturina inside the area and he, despite not he controlled the ball well, turned and hit a powerful shot with his left foot to beat Germán.
The bad thing for the Santander team is that in just 30 minutes they lost two central defenders, Germán and his replacement Rubén Alves, and, therefore, two exchange windows.
The islanders had a one-on-one draw between Herrera and Ezquieta, but the Basque goalkeeper stuck out his foot, as if it were a handball goalkeeper, to preserve Racing’s advantage, which, in stoppage time, were able to extend their lead, although this time Germán covered Mboula’s shot superbly.
In the second half, the Ibizans, with this result a First RFEF team, stretched a little further to find a draw against Racing who also did not do merit to close the match.
Despite this, Baturina had two chances to increase the score and the Croatian forward starred in a game that could have sentenced the contest, however VAR overturned a penalty indicated by referee De la Fuente Ramos.
In the final moments, although Racing had another chance to score, El Sardinero’s nerves were palpable and only the final whistle sent the stadium into a frenzy to celebrate what could have been a decisive three points.
