Leicester and Everton are tied in a dramatic battle for permanence

Date:

The pulse between Leicester and Everton at the King Power Stadium is palpable with permanence at stake. It was a game with all the incentives of the Premier, with electric and vertical football, which ended in a draw (2-2). The ‘foxes’ left the relegation zone thanks to a better goal difference than Nottingham, while the ‘foxes’, one point behind, remain penultimate, but with four games to go all are not yet decisive.

Everton started the game very well, took the initiative and in the 9th minute forced the goal Daniel Iversen, Leicester’s best player along with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison, to show off by taking a shot with a reserved hand Alex Iwobi.

Calvert-Lewin penalty kick

and though Maddison He responded with a tight shot, after a back pass from Vardy, what did he get Jordan Pickford0-1 after a quarter of an hour was an honest reflection of Everton’s early excellence. Timothy Castagne pushed into place to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and he changed the punishment.

But Leicester’s reaction was short-lived and tied the game between their centre-backs. Wout Faes grabbed the head and Çaglar Soyüncü, with a bounce soon after, he nails the ball into the net (22′).

Maddison–Vardy connection

This goal gave the ‘foxes’, who advanced on the scoreboard after half an hour thanks to the connection Maddison-Vardy. A loss from Iwobi in midfield was used by Maddison to put a great ball deep to Vardy. The 36-year-old veteran striker did the rest: he left the race, he beat Pickford’s release and scored into an empty net.

The game went into a give and take, with chances at both goals. Iversen was again successful to block two consecutive chances Dwight McNeil and Calvert-Lewin, who finished poorly and missed the goal which was sung a meter from the goal.

Vardy, on the crossbar and Coleman, injured

But in an immediate counterattack Vardy made it 3-1 by again escaping for pace and teeing up Pickford, who miraculously saved the crossbar.

Everton stayed in the first half discount without their captain Seamus Coleman is taken off on a stretcher after suffering cold penetration in the right knee of Boubakary Soumare.

Pickford for a penalty

There was still time before the break for Harvey Barnes to score a penalty with a cross that was kept out at arm’s length by Michael Keane, but Pickford saves Maddison’s pitch.

Iwobi tie

Going forward, the game maintained all its intensity. Everton came out with renewed vigor and, after Iversen parried a shot at Calvert-Lewin’s near post with his left foot as if it were a handball goalkeeper, Iwobi equalized with a crossed volley that took advantage of a poor defensive clearance (54′).

A draw was of no use to either team, so the match was relentless and for the moment it was broken with arrivals on both sides. James Tarkowski take a headbutt from Vardy goes into the net (60′).

Leicester definitely turned around at the end though Iversen he was saved again by a whip of Abdoulaye Doucoure in the last moments. Leicester have gone three games unbeaten while Everton are struggling to win and have gone seven without scoring three points.
