Date:

This weekend the UK rides Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes They arrive at what is the home round for most of the Kawasaki Racing Team squad from Valles and will be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, between May 5 and 7, the fourth of the 12 rounds of the World Championship. of Superbikes.

So far it has been a difficult season for the team due to the overwhelming dominance of the Álvaro Bautista-Ducati Panigale V4R pairing, but the legendary Jonny Rea has been on the podium three times in Race 1 at Phillip Island and in the Superpole Race and Race 1 from Assen 15 days ago -three seconds- and Lowes did it in the Mandalika superpole Race -third-. Rea is now fifth in the general classification, but 101 points behind Bautista. and Lowes 10th.

Although not a good track for the Ninja ZX-10RR, Jonathan won the first WorldSBK Catalunya race for KRT in 2020, and again in 2021 in the sprint race. Alex was also on the podium in the Catalunya sprint race last season.

In the statements given by the Kawasaki Racing Team, Rea explained that “I’m excited because it’s the home race weekend for the team and there’s always a great atmosphere in Barcelona. It’s a good circuit to drive. In the past it was a difficult circuit for us, but we did a good I tested there a few weeks ago. With this new bike set-up, I think we will be more competitive there.”

“It looks like the weekend will be consistent in terms of the weather, which is always a plus. I’m looking forward to getting down to business and seeing what I can do. We’ll have great support from the team, their families, the sponsor, etc., so it’s an important race to be strong. We’ll go step by step over the weekend and build a good plan with Pere (Riba, his technical boss).”

For Alex Lowes, whose twin Sam won this weekend at Jerez in Moto2“I always have mixed feelings at Montmeló where we did a test recently. It’s one of the best circuits to ride, with a lot of long corners. I did a Kawasaki event there, riding the Z900 and it was a lot of fun. But it’s probably not the perfect layout for our bike, with a long corner and also quite high tire wear, but we did a good test with a good set-up of the bike, I feel good on the Ninja and I’m looking forward to race home team to try to fight for the podium.”
