The Itzulia-Vuelta al País Vasco 2023 will have a luxurious participation with 132 runners, 22 teams and three mountainous stages to face the world’s best cyclists, with the Dutch standing out demi volleringwho is defending the title, and the Movistar Team rider Annemiek Van Vleuten.
This year’s edition was presented at the San Sebastián City Hall, in an action led by its mayor Eneko Goia, where some keys to this test, with the highest category of the UCI Wold Tour and held between of days 12 and 14 of May.
The rivalry between Demi Vollering is noteworthysecond in the Tour and winner of three stages of the last edition of Itzulia, and his compatriot from the Spanish team Movistar Van Vleutenwho won the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia in 2022 and is the current Olympic time trial champion at the Tokyo games.
In addition to Van Vleuten and Vollering (Team SD Worx), the presence of other first swords of women’s cycling such as Pauliena Rooijakkers (Canyon/Sram Racing) or Niamh FisherU23 world champion and one of the most promising runners.
The route passes through three Basque territories, so the first stage will cover the lands of Biscay, the second will combine Vitoria with Amurrio (Álava) and the third will be the jewel of the event, with a route similar to Clásica San Sebastián.
This final stage is expected to be decisive and in its layout the cyclists will have to climb the tough Jaizkibel pass and especially the Murgil level, with slopes that sometimes reach 20%, a few kilometers from the finish line of San Sebastián.
Seven mountain passes, one from the First, two from the Second and four from the Thirdmake a mountainous streak for this Itzulia, typical of the races that run in the Basque Country.
