Another record TV contract in English football

Date:

English football continues to break records in terms of television rights. This time, the agreement is not about the Premier League but about the Football League (EFL), an organization that includes the second, third and fourth divisions and has renewed the match transmission agreement with Sky for 935 million pounds ( 1,070 million euros) over five years.

More than a thousand games per season of the 72 teams that make up the Championship, League One and League Two will be broadcast live despite the fact that maintains a ban on broadcasting matches in Great Britain starting at 3:00 pm local time.

The agreement, that is It will cover the period between 2024-2025 to 2028-2029 season, consists of £895m of broadcast rights and £40m of commercial rights.

The new contract represents a 50% increase compared to the previous one that expires at the end of next season, but is a far cry from what is currently implemented in the Premier League, which renewed its agreements with Sky, BT and Amazon at around 5,000 million pounds for three seasons until 2024-25.
