Audi and Porsche confirm their arrival in F1

For several months, it was thought that the two brands were negotiating to enter the top category of international motorsports. And Diess, speaking on YouTube, confirmed that Porsche’s preparations are a bit more concrete, but didn’t reveal its strategy.

Last month, a supervisory board meeting of the VW Group ended with no final decision on whether they will commit to an F1 project in 2026. However, they are confirming plans for both participation, subject to review.

On Monday, Diess said F1’s emphasis on sustainability, growth in the U.S. and Asia and its growing popularity with younger viewers is what makes F1 so attractive today.

Official confirmation may take longer and there is speculation that it could take place at the Austrian Grand Prix next July to coincide with Red Bull’s home race, as Porsche will soon close a partnership with Red Bull Powertrains for new technician regulations. from 2026 with that Porsche will return to the circus after a loss of more than 30 years. The last time it competed as a machine supplier was in the disastrous Footwork project in 1991.

Audi’s debut in F1 isn’t very defined and it’s understood that it’s more interested in a team with its own engine program, based on an F1-spec V6 internal combustion engine built by Porsche a few years ago, but Diess assured that he has yet to find a team to be with. McLaren, Williams, Sauber and even Aston Martin have been linked to Audi.
