Ertzaintza patrol ran over a female Itzulia cyclist this Friday and three others were injured when they fell to the ground to avoid the vehicle in the first stage of this test.
Sources from the Ertzaintza reported that the event took place around 12:30 in the afternoon when the cyclists were riding along the BI-633 in the Biscayne municipality of Markina.
The cyclists got into the agents’ car, one of which apparently crashed and the other three managed to avoid but fell and sustained injuries.
Both sources explained that they are investigating what happened.
Regarding the test, the Dutch Demi Vollering (SD Worx), winner in 2022 and in the three stages of that first edition, repeated his victory on Friday in the first stage and led the Basque race after an exhibition in the last kilometers that gave to him of victory at the Markina-Xemein finish line.
The great dominator of the season achieved his eighth victory of the year with an undisputed attack on the main point of a rainy day, starting from Etxebarria and 122.2 km long: the Urkaregi pass, a 5.8 km Second at 4.6 percent uneven and with the top 8 km from the finish line.
