Javier Aguirre, Mallorca’s Mexican coach, acknowledged that his team “lost the load off their shoulders” by beating Cádiz 1-0 at the Son Moix stadium, a result that left the vermilions with 44 points and virtual permanent in the First Division.
“It looks like it’s over, but it continues and we have to make sure. I thought 42 points, which is good, but 44 is better. I’m careful. I always am, because of the history of descents with 44 points I think that there is no relegation yet. I will wait this week to see how we are (in the standings) and we continue fighting against Almería, that’s for sure,” Aguirre remarked.
“We had a burden on us (for being on the brink of safety) and we were tense and I think now the team has freed itself from it,” he admitted. The “Basque”, despite having a permanent in his pocket, refused to speak about the renewal of his contract.
“I’m still not talking about the renewal. I was very clear with them (the Mallorca board) and with my representative, who is the one who is negotiating. I asked the club and my representative to wait until further notice. I’ I have said it over and over and now I have ratified it,” said Aguirre.
“These fans -he added- deserve a First Division team, they deserve happiness. I know that (tonight) is not the best game of the season, far from it. But no less that the fans will enjoy Saturday and Sunday with the peace of Bale his team has 44 points and can win for the third year in the first division, which will be great to put the project together”, Javier Aguirre emphasized .-
