The pilot of Openbank Aspar Jordi Torres beat Héctor Garzó by 92 thousandths in the first scoring round of the new FIM World Championship for electric motorcycles that took place this Saturday at the Le Mans circuit as part of the MotoGP French Grand Prix competition program and where the Ducati season opens in MotoE.
Torres, two-time world champion in 2020 and 2021 when the competition was still considered the World Cup and drove the Energica, he knew how to wait for the right moment by saving the tires after the first leaders of the race, the Valencian Héctor Garzó and the Italian Matteo Ferrari, went to the ground in the fifth lap, when he was in the lead in the race.
Garzó emerged as the first leader of the first round of electric motorcycles since the red light went out, forced by Italian Matteo Ferrari, and joined the hopeful Jordi Torres in third place.
Ferrari regained first position from Garzó in the second of the eight laps the electric-powered Ducati V21L had to complete, although it lost a few laps later, when the test had already lost several protagonists, the Italians Nicolas Spinelli, Andrea Mantovani and Mattia Casadei, as well as the Spanish Miquel Pons.
Matteo Ferrari was the next victim when he crashed in the seventh part of the fifth lap, when he was once again in the lead, ahead of Héctor Garzó, who thus found himself in first place, now exclusively chased by Jordi Torres and including the Swiss Randy Almost seven seconds behind Krummenacher with three laps to go.
At the start of the last lap, Garzó barely got a 95 thousandth advantage over Torres, taking advantage of the variant of turns three and four to overtake his rival and take the lead, defending his position well until he saw the checkered flag .
Krummenacher closed third in over 7.5, with Tito Rabat sixth, Mika Pérez eleventh and María Herrera twelfth.
